Minnesota United FC vs. LA Galaxy Preview

May 14, 2024 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Minnesota United FC News Release

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- Minnesota United returns to Allianz Field to take on the LA Galaxy during a mid-week match. Minnesota are ranked second in the Western Conference, just one spot above the Galaxy who occupy the third place.

Minnesota United are rested and ready to face LA Galaxy after a bye this past weekend. The Loons earned three points and a win against Atlanta United on the road, pushing them into second in the Western Conference standings. Minnesota goes into Wednesday's match riding the club's best start in their MLS history with 20 points earned across the first 10 matches played. Additionally, the Loons look to continue successful streaks, including forward Tani Oluwaseyi's scoring run of three consecutive matches. Should he score on Wednesday, that would become a club-record fourth straight match with a goal scored by a single player.

The LA Galaxy have a quick turn-around going into Wednesday's match after facing Real Salt Lake this past Saturday, which ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw. LA have not won in their last two away games, resulting in a 0-0 tie against Seattle Sounders FC and a 2-0 loss at Austin FC. But, the lull in winning results shouldn't be overlooked, as a powerful offense with players like Riqui Puig, Dejan Joveljic and Diego Fagundez provide a serious threat to the Minnesota defense. Will the Loons continue their strong run of form and give the home fans another victory celebration, or will the Southern California side see their offense take over tonight?

HEAD COACH ERIC RAMSAY ON THE APPROACH TO FACING STRONG OFFENSIVE TEAMS...

"In some senses, it's easy for a coach in that set of circumstances because our players know the quality of the players LA [Galaxy] have. Our players definitely, as you've seen in the last three games, are a group of players that relish the challenge of taking on top players and quieting down top players. I think we've done that. In one sense, there's a lot of transfer between the Atlanta [United] game and this game [LA Galaxy], largely there will be a lot of similar messages. I think you've seen that we're a pretty cohesive unit, we really relish the challenge to take away space from top players. Fingers crossed we can do that tomorrow because you're really going to need to do that against them. For me, that's one of, if not the best set of front players I've seen so far. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can produce against them [LA Galaxy]."

DEFENDER MICHAEL BOXALL ON KEY ELEMENTS TO KEEP THE WINNING MOMENTUM GOING...

"Even though we're getting results, we're not entirely satisfied with how we're playing. I think there's always stuff we can improve on. Defensively, we've been pretty solid, but with the ball we can always improve. Looking after the ball is a great way to defend as well, if we do that at home a bit more, we'll be on our way to more success."
