Minnesota United FC vs. LA Galaxy Preview

Minnesota United FC News Release

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Sunday's showdown in Seattle ended in a tough 3-1 loss for the Loons. The Loons will regroup and be back in action again with a mid-week matchup against the LA Galaxy, and welcome back former MNUFC defender Chase Gasper. As of late, the Galaxy has struggled to score in league games, with only three goals in their last five matches. In their most recent, the game ended in a 3-3 draw that sent MNUFC into the postseason but ended LA's season in dramatic fashion. After a tough loss out West, the Loons will need to recover quickly to get back in the win column against the Galaxy.

ADRIAN HEATH ON THE LA GALAXY DEFENSE

"I think also, if you look at them, they've maybe been a touch inconsistent. But the one thing I do know, and if we don't play well, and we allow them time to play, play in our half, counter attack, we don't do good at preventative marking, they have too many good attacking pieces that they won't cause you trouble. I'm sure that when Greg [Vanney] looks back at it he'll be disappointed with a couple of goals they've conceded against Dallas, but overall, it's been a good start from them and nothing more than we expected. They've got really good attacking pieces and if they can shore up the backline like they've done the majority of this season then it's a pretty formidable group of players they've got."

WIL TRAPP ON FACING THE LA GALAXY

"It's massive. First and foremost from the perspective of getting us back on the right track. Winning a game at home in front of our fans. I think it will allow us to kind of let go of what the past three games in the league have been and move forward into a tough game which will be in Dallas. But understanding that the next three or four games coming up are not easy, we have to take it one game at a time."

STORYLINES PRESENTED BY BMW

HUMP DAY HEROICS? Wednesday's game marks the Loons first midweek, MLS-regular-season matchup this season, but this isn't their first rodeo...if rodeos were weekday matchups...you get it. In fact, their first two matches played in the U.S. Open Cup took place (partially, at least) on Wednesday evenings, and both ended in a Loons victory. Step it back further, MNUFC played nine MLS games during weekdays in 2021, which drew mixed results, going 3-2-4 in those games. However, just three of those nine games were midweek games played at Allianz Field and, you guessed it, all three resulted in wins. In fact, through six seasons of MLS regular-season home fixtures played on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the Loons have gone 11-3-1, with their lone loss occurring all the way back in July 2017 (and it's their only loss in any of the 15 matches on a Tuesday, for the record). Yes, that's correct: Minnesota has never lost a regular season game on a Wednesday at home.
