Minnesota Lynx News Release
Minneapolis/St. Paul - The Minnesota Lynx announced today that the inaugural Lynx Ballerz Tour Live will commence Thursday with the first of 18 scheduled tour stops at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School in Plymouth, Minn.
The Lynx Ballerz Tour Live is one of many offseason initiatives that the Lynx will debut this winter in an effort to build one basketball community in the state of Minnesota.
"We are very excited to bring the Lynx Ballerz Tour Live to the girls basketball teams in Minnesota," said Lynx Vice President of Business Operations Angela Taylor. "The Tour is just one example of our commitment to the support of the youth around the state, and it is another step in our efforts to unite the Minnesota Lynx with the high school and youth basketball communities in Minnesota. The Tour will shine the spotlight on girls basketball at local high schools, where the future stars of the WNBA are already competing."
Over a period of 13 weeks, the Lynx will stop at 18 girls high school basketball games as part of the Lynx Ballerz Tour Live, meeting with players, families and fans to bring the fun and excitement of Lynx Basketball to high school gyms across the state. Lynx players, including 2007 All-Rookie Team member Lindsey Harding, along with Head Coach Don Zierden and mascot Prowl, will join in the excitement at various stops on the Tour. The Tour includes stops at Becker and St. Paul Central, two of the four reigning state champions, as well as De La Salle, which won the 1985 boys basketball state championship under Zierden's direction at the start of his head coaching career.
The Lynx will meet with both teams at each stop to offer a pregame pep talk and answer questions. The Lynx will immerse fans in the experience of a WNBA game at each Tour stop, including autograph sessions, awarding raffle prizes, tossing Lynx T-shirts into the crowd, as well as basketball clinics to select stops on the Tour.
"Heading into their 10th Anniversary, the Minnesota Lynx continue to have a positive impact on the lives of young girls," said Jenny Johnson, Edina High School activities director and girls basketball head coach. "The Lynx consistently encourage these girls to follow their dreams. This outreach by the Lynx will allow our players the chance to get a taste of what it is like to be a part of the WNBA. Our fans will also have the opportunity to witness first-hand the commitment that the Lynx have to the basketball community in the state of Minnesota. We are thrilled to see the Ballerz Tour Live make a stop here at Edina High School."
