Minnesota Lynx News Release
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx today announced the team has signed forward Rachel Jarry. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"We are looking forward to seeing Rachel in training camp this summer," said Lynx Executive Vice President Roger Griffith. "Already a five-year veteran at 21, she has proven to be a difference maker in Australia and should be able to make an immediate impact in the WNBA. Rachel's list of accomplishments at such a young age in Australia is impressive: leading her WNBL team to a championship in 2010-11, being named to the WNBL All Star Five in 2011-12 and helping lead the Opals to a bronze medal last summer."
Originally chosen by the Atlanta Dream in the second round (18th overall) of the 2011 WNBA Draft, Jarry was acquired by the Lynx, along with a second-round pick in 2012, in a draft-day trade (April 11, 2011) for the rights to the 14th overall choice (Felicia Chester). She has spent the past five seasons playing in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL), the premier women's league in Australia, highlighted by averaging career-bests in points (15.5) and rebounds (7.5) in 2011-12 en route to being named to the WNBL All Star Five. This season, Jarry has averaged 13.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 32.2 minutes per game, recently being selected as the WNBL Fan's Player of the Week for Round 17.
Jarry, 21, has also represented Australia in international play, making her Olympic debut this past summer by winning a bronze medal with the Opals at the 2012 London games. The youngest player on the Australian roster, Jarry appeared in all eight games, averaging 4.3 points and 2.8 rebounds in 16.6 minutes per game. Previously, Jarry represented Australia at the 2009 FIBA U19 World Championship for Women, averaging 12.7 points and a team-high 6.8 rebounds per game.
Full-season tickets for the entire 17-game home schedule of the defending Western Conference Champion Minnesota Lynx are on sale now for as low as $187. Tickets are available by calling the Lynx front office at 612-673-8400 or by visiting www.lynxbasketball.com .
