Minnesota Lynx News Release

This Week's Opponents - Atlanta and Sacramento

The Lynx are looking to stay hot after two important wins last week at home. The Lynx have started a franchise best 6-3 and have reached the top of the Western Conference standings. Last week Candice Wiggins led the Lynx with 25 points against New York and 22 against Phoenix. Roneeka Hodges also posted a career-high 22 points in the win over Phoenix.

Minnesota's first game this week is a nationally televised contest (ESPN2) against Coco Miller and the Atlanta Dream. Last season the Lynx split with the Dream with both teams winning on the road. It should be a high-scoring affair, as both teams rank near the top of the WNBA in scoring. The Lynx are currently ranked second in the WNBA with 84.7 points per game and the Dream are a close third averaging 81.6 points per game.

The second game will feature the Lynx against the Sacramento Monarchs. On June 16 the Lynx edged out the Monarchs 86-83 to start a three game trip out West. Five Monarch players scored in double-figure points, but it wasn't enough as Seimone Augustus recorded 30 points, including two closing free-throws to seal a win. The Monarchs are winless so far this season on the road at 0-5.

Wiggins Earns Player of the Week Award

For her recent play the league has awarded Candice Wiggins as the Western Conference Player of the Week. In Minnesota's first game last week, Wiggins recorded 25 points shooting 4-6 (.666 FG%) from the three-point line. In the second game Wiggins recorded 22 points and also posted four assists and a season-high six rebounds.

Lynx Televised for Three Straight Games

Both games this week will be televised for the Lynx making it three consecutive games with television coverage. Last Saturday FS North televised the game and will also air the game this Thursday. Tuesday's game in Atlanta will be nationally televised on ESPN2. After this week three more games are scheduled to air on FS North this season.

Lynx Continue to Hold Onto the Lead

In each of their six wins this season the Lynx have jumped out to third quarter leads and held on until the final buzzer. Last season the Lynx were 15-3 when leading after the third, and just 2-15 when trailing going into the final quarter.
