MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx are proud to announce the two schools that have earned the distinction of receiving the eighth "Team of the Week" awards for the 2008-09 High School season, which includes games played through Jan. 29.

In conjunction with the "Lynx Ballerz Tour Live," the "Lynx Team of the Week" initiative is part of an off-season program that the Minnesota Lynx have brought back this winter in an effort to give back to the basketball community in the state of Minnesota. The "Lynx Team of the Week" initiative celebrates excellence in the classroom, in the community, and on the court.

This is the eighth consecutive week that the Minnesota Lynx have recognized one girls team and one boys team. The program will continue every week throughout the high school regular season.

"I have coached basketball at every level, including winning the Class A state championship when I coached the boys basketball team at De La Salle High School," said Lynx head coach Don Zierden. "The one thing that has impressed me most is the amount of talent that there is in the high schools here in Minnesota. We have some of the nation's best teams playing right here in our own backyard. I am thrilled that the Minnesota Lynx are continuing their outreach to the high schools so these teams and athletes are able to receive the recognition that they deserve for their achievements on the court, in the classroom, and in the community."

This week's winners:

Boys Basketball

Class AA's Mora Mustangs are the Boys Lynx Team of the Week after a trio of wins last week, which improved their record to 11-4. Mora kicked off its impressive week on Friday, Jan. 23, with a 47-32 win over host Long Prairie-Grey Eagle. Andrew Good's 11 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocks again paced the Mustangs. Logan Orazem and Joe Mork contributed seven points apiece, and Mora's bench chipped in 15 of the squad's 47 points. Four nights later, the Mustangs captured their third straight win and eighth of the season, defeating visiting Esko 70-62. Mora then capped off the perfect week with perhaps its most impressive win in the seven-day span, going on the road to defeat an Albany team that came into the game with an 11-4 record and winners of its last eight. Mora overcame an early deficit to get past the Huskies 77-68. After losing its first two games of the season, Mora has caught fire, winning 11 of its last 13 games. For the season, Mora is averaging 65.0 ppg and has outscored its opponents by an average of 9.2 ppg.

Girls Basketball

The Caledonia Warriors are the Girls Lynx Team of the Week after claiming three victories last week, defeating their opponents by an average of 29.6 ppg. The three wins upped the Warriors record to a perfect 19-0. Caledonia opened the week on Friday, Jan. 23, with a resounding 70-33 win over Fillmore Central. Three nights later, the Warriors continued their winning ways, defeating host Wabasha-Kellogg 60-39. The Warriors built up a 38-23 first half lead, and outscored the home-standing Eagles 22-16 in the second half en route to the 21-point win. Libby Augedahl led the Warriors with 21 points. She also had nine rebounds, five steals and one assist. Caledonia's final matchup of the week pitted the Warriors versus the Southland Rebels. The Warriors jumped out to a fast start, leading 42-18 at the half and cruising to a 67-36 win. Caledonia is ranked third in the latest Class AAA poll distributed by Minnesota Basketball News.
