Minnesota Lynx Guard Tynesha Lewis Retires

MINNEAPOLIS/ST PAUL - Minnesota Lynx guard Tynesha Lewis today announced that she is retiring from the WNBA.

Lewis is a six-year WNBA veteran who had spent the last two seasons with the Minnesota Lynx. Throughout her time with the Lynx, the North Carolina State graduate appeared in 30 games, averaging 2.5 points and 1.1 rebounds. In 143 WNBA games, Lewis averaged 13.1 minutes, 4.0 points (on 40.4% field goal shooting), 1.4 rebounds and 0.9 assists. She appeared in four playoff games; two with Houston in 2001 and two in Charlotte in 2003.

"I'd like to thank Tynesha for all that she's done for the Lynx on and off the basketball court over the last two seasons," Lynx Chief Operating Officer Roger Griffith said. "She's been a dedicated professional and the Lynx organization wishes her the best in her endeavors after her playing career."

Born in Macclesfield, North Carolina, Lewis attended North Carolina State University and was drafted by the Houston Comets in the second round of the 2001 WNBA Draft. She worked with teens on issues such as alcohol use, drug abuse and suicide and started a nonprofit organization, ITSDOABLE, INC.
