Minnesota Lynx Guard Candice Wiggins Undergoes Arthroscopic Surgery on Right Knee

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx announced today that guard Candice Wiggins underwent arthroscopic surgery for a lateral meniscal tear in her right knee on Monday, Sept. 22, at the Stanford University Medical Center.
Wiggins has already begun the rehabilitation process from the surgery at Stanford while she is taking classes to finish her undergraduate degree in Communications. She is expected to be fully recovered when the Lynx start training camp for the 2009 season next May.
Selected with the third overall pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft, Wiggins sustained the injury to her right knee in the 2nd quarter of Minnesota's game against the Indiana Fever on Tuesday, Sept. 9, and missed the final two games of the season.
Wiggins missed a total of four games in her rookie season, which included the final two games before the Olympic Break after she suffered a lower back contusion during a game against the Indiana Fever in Indianapolis on July 24.
On the season, Wiggins ranked among the WNBA's top 20 in scoring (15th, 15.7 ppg), assists (20th, 3.0 apg), FT accuracy (20th, 81.7%) and steals (7th, 1.80 spg). Among rookies, she finished in the top three in seven of the league's nine major categories, including 2nd in scoring and 3rd in assists, and was named the Hanns-G 'Go Beyond' Rookie of the Month for June after tallying 18.6 ppg, 3.9 rpg and 3.4 apg in 11 contests.
