Norfolk Admirals News Release
Hershey's Graham Mink netted a hat trick as the Bears handed the Admirals a 5-2 loss at Scope.
Adam Munro and the Admirals' penalty killers negated five Hershey power plays - including a two-man disadvantage - to keep the Bears off the board in the opening twenty minutes. The only goal of the period came while the teams skated at four skaters aside. Dave Steckel stripped an Admiral of the puck and beat his defender through the slot before sending a wrister past Munro at 18:43. The goal gave the Bears a 1-0 lead heading into the second period.
The lead doubled early in the stanza, as Hershey picked up a power play tally. Graham Mink found the puck behind the goal line to the right of Munro, came out in front and sent a shot just outside of Munro's left leg and just inside the far post at 3:17. Norfolk cut the lead in half following a Mink penalty. Martin St. Pierre fed a pass to Dustin Byfuglien, who skated in and launched one from the top of the slot into the twine to make the score 2-1. But the Bears answered back in strong fashion. After a scramble in front of the Admirals' net, Mink poked home his second of the night at the 18:14 mark, then finished his trifecta with a power play in the 20th minute of the frame.
In the third period, Corey Crawford relieved Munro in the cage. Trailing 4-1, the Ads began a comeback bid when Mark Cullen fired the puck over the shoulder of Frederick Cassivi just 26 ticks into the stanza. But three minutes later, after Kris Beech fanned on a shot, Tomas Fleichmann collected a loose puck and flipped it over Crawford to regain a three-goal advantage for his team.
Adam Munro stopped 17 of 21 shots and took the loss, while Corey Crawford registered 3 saves for the Admirals. Frederic Cassivi finished with 31 stops on the night for the Bears.
Norfolk was 1-8 on the power play while Hershey was 2-7.
