Sussex County Miners News Release
Augusta, NJ - The Sussex County Miners got another strong performance from starting pitcher Francisco Rodriguez, three hits from Steve Nyisztor, and a solo HR from Ryan Dent to lead the home side to a 4-2 win over the visiting Trois-Rivières Aigles in game one of a day/night doublehearder in front of 2,109 fans on a school day special at Skylands Stadium.
The Miners bats were led by Nyisztor's three hits, the first of which got the Miners started in a run scoring third inning. Nyisztor would double, be sacrificed over to 3rd by Ryan Dent, and then score on Jay Austin's groundout for the game's first run.
Rodriguez (2-1) was once again in command through most of his seven innings of work. His lone hiccup inning came in the sixth, when Trois-Rivières put two runs across on back-to-back doubles by David Amberson and Eric Grabe and a Delvis Morales single. After that, Rodriguez settled right back down, getting out of the sixth with no further damage.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Miners would regain the lead, and they would do it with another two-out rally.Carl Thomore would hit a double in the left-center gap, and Sean Hurley would follow with a double of his own to score Thomore. Gaby Juarbe would then bring an end to Aigles starter Max Schonfeld's Can-Am debut with a run scoring single, pushing the Miners back on top 3-2.
In the bottom of the seventh, Dent would take a Edilson Alvare pitch well over the wall in left-center field, hitting the scoreboard above the outfield wall signage to give the Miners a 4-2 lead that would hold up as the final score line. Drew Cisco worked a solid eighth inning in which the only two hits were both soft hits off of tough pitches, and Andres Santiago came on in the ninth and notched his league-leading fourth save of the season.
Game two of the day/night doubleheader is scheduled for 7:05 pm. After the game, the Miners will next play on Thursday night in Ottawa against the Champions.
