Sussex County Miners News Release

Augusta, NJ - In a game that had nine combined pitchers, six combined errors, and a pop up storm that brought heavy rain and an hour long weather delay, the Trois-Rivières Aigles scratched out a run in the top of the tenth inning on Memorial Day to come out of Skylands Stadium with a 4-3 win over the Sussex County Miners in front of 1,973 fans.

The Miners were given yet another good outing from their starting pitcher, this time Joe Donino. Donino would pitch seven innings, allowing 3 runs, with only one of them being earned, on six hits and striking out eight Aigles during those seven innings. Matthew Rusch also pitched well again for Trois-Rivières, with the fourth inning being his only trouble spot on the evening. Rusch pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out six Miners before the heavy rain squall brought the tarp on the field and brought an end to his night.

The only earned run the Miners would allow came in the second inning on a Sam Judah solo HR over the left field wall right beneath the scoreboard. It was Judah's first HR of the season. The other Aigles runs in regulation innings came courtesy of a double error by Sean Hurley in the third inning, only his second and third errors of the season. The play would be enough for Jalen Harris to score to make it 2-0, and Reed Lavallee, who had reached on the errors earlier, would later score to make it 3-0 Aigles.

The Miners would score all of their runs in the fourth inning. Rusch was cruising until the fourth, when Carl Thomore started with a single. Ryan Dent, Nick Giarraputo, and Steve Nyisztor all would add RBI singles in the inning, and the Miners stole three bases as well in tying the score at 3-3.

Trois-Rivières would score the final run of the night in the tenth inning, aided again by two errors. The first was more of a hard lick error when a hard groundball too a funny hop and ricocheted off of Dent's leg and into center field. The other error was a Michael Antonio throwing error that allowed Daniel Mateo to score the go ahead run for the Aigles. Kaohi Downing would then come on to earn his second save of the season with a 1-2-3 bottom of the tenth.

The Miners and Aigles will play a day/night doubleheader on Tuesday, with the first game starting at 10:35 am and the second game at 7:05 pm. Michael Suk and Francisco Rodriguez are scheduled to start for the Miners, with Ryan Bollinger and Charles Gillies scheduled to start for Trois-Rivières.
