Sussex County Miners News Release

Augusta, NJ - Strong pitching continues to be a staple for success for the Sussex County Miners. In game two of a day/night doubleheader, Michael Suk once again spun a strong seven inning effort in allowing just one run and striking out seven batters as the Miners defeated the Trois-Rivières Aigles 2-1 to sweep the doubleheader and move a game above .500 for the first time in the franchise's two year history. It also marks just their second doubleheader sweep in franchise history, having one last year against the New Jersey Jackals on July 26th at Skylands Stadium.

Suk (2-1) earned the win for the Miners in going 7 strong innings for the second straight outing. Suk allowed just one run in the sixth inning on six hits, with no walks and seven strikeouts. Josh Wood pitched a 1-2-3 eighth and Andres Santiago worked around an error in the ninth to earn his second save of the day and league-leading fifth of the season in five opportunities.

Offennsively the Miners had eleven base hits, four of which came off the bat of Jay Austin. Austin also had the go ahead RBI in the bottom of the sixth, when his single scored Steve Nyisztor, who led the frame off with a sharp double. Carl Thomore also had two hits for Sussex County and scored the game's first run in the bottom of the fifth, when Sean Hurley chased him home with a run scoring double. Ryan Dent also had two hits for the Miners.

Trois-Rivières had another solid outing from Ryan Bollinger, who, despite allowing nine hits, found ways to keep the Miners at bay for the most part. Bollinger allowed two runs while striking out three and not walking a batter. Delvis Morales was the only player in the Aigles lineup who had two hits.

The Miners next embark on a four game road trip to Ottawa to take on the Champions starting Thursday night at 7:05 pm. All four games on the road trip can be heard on the Miners Radio Network. The Miners then return home on June 6th to start a seven game homestand, with the New Jersey Jackals coming to Skylands for the first three games and then followed by the Shikoku Island All-Stars. Tickets for all Miners home games can be purchased at sussexcountyminers.com/tickets or by calling 973-940-0222. All home games can be seen on canamleague.tv as well as heard on the Miners Radio Network.
