Milwaukee Wave News Release
(Milwaukee, WI) â The Milwaukee Wave was defeated by the Cleveland Force by a score of 4-3 tonight in overtime in front of 5,140 fans at the U.S. Cellular Arena. Robbie Aristodemo was credited for the game-winning goal, as it bounced off his back past a helpless Wave goalkeeper Nick Vorberg. With the win the Force improves to 7-9 on the season, while the Wave falls to 11-7.
The scoring started early in the contest with a goal by Nino Marcantonio on a restart at 4:31. The Wave goal was quickly followed by two Force goals as Chris Dore connected at 6:08, slotting the ball past Wave goalkeeper Nick Vorberg. Adauto Neto then put the Force up by one with a power play goal, assisted by teammate Antonio Sutton at 9:01.
The three-goal first period was followed by a scoreless second, in which the Wave out shot the Force 9-6.
Milwaukee struck early in the second half when Marcelo Fontana scored just 36 seconds into the third quarter. Fontana collected the ball from goalkeeper Nick Vorberg near midfield and sent a long shot that sailed over the hands of Cleveland goalkeeper Jim Larkin. The goal tied the game at two early in the third.
The Force jumped ahead of the Milwaukee Wave in the fourth quarter with an unassisted goal by Joel Bailey at 8:34. This goal was quickly answered with a power-play goal by Giuliano Oliviero at 12:43, assisted by Greg Howes. The goal would prove to be the last of regulation.
Cleveland received a lucky break in the first overtime period, when a Wave clearance deflected off the back of Robbie Aristodemo and into the back of the net past Vorberg.
"We give Cleveland a lot of credit," said Milwaukee Wave head coach Keith Tozer. "And hopefully we'll learn from this loss, put it behind us and come out strong tomorrow in Chicago."
