Force Rides Wave For Overtime Victory (4-3)

MILWAUKEE, WIS. -- The Cleveland Force traveled to the Badger State and defeated the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) leading Milwaukee Wave by a final score of 4-3 in overtime at the U.S. Cellular Arena in the second game of road back-to-back weekend contests.

With the victory, the Force snapped a two game losing streak and a four game losing skid in Milwaukee while improving to 7-9 overall, 3-4 on the road, 1-3 in overtime games, 1-1 versus the Wave this season, 1-3 at the U.S. Cellular Arena and 19-27 all-time versus Milwaukee teams. With the loss, the Wave fell to 11-7 overall and 8-3 at home.

Milwaukee opened the scoring (0-1) when midfielder Nino Marcantonio scored the restart goal from 45-feet out at 4:31 of the first quarter. The Force quickly responded and tied the game (1-1) when forward and Lorain native Chris Dore buried a shot just inside the yellow line into the upper 90 off the cross from defender Wendell Regis at 6:08. Cleveland took their first lead of the night and of the weekend games (2-1) when forward Adauto Neto made a run down the middle and rolled the power play goal gently into the corner of the goal off the assist from Antonio Sutton at 9:01.

The two teams battled to a scoreless second quarter. The scoreless quarter marked the fifth time this season that the Force went without a goal while the opponent went with out a score for the third time and was the first time that both teams held each other without a tally.

The Wave tied the game for the second time (2-2) when midfielder Marcelo Fontana chipped the ball over Cleveland goalkeeper Jim Larkin's head for the scored off the long outlet pass from Milwaukee goalkeeper Nick Vorberg just 36 second into the third quarter.

The Force regained the lead and scored their first goal since the first quarter (3-2) when forward Joel Bailey ran right by Wave defender Chris Morman and nailed the shot that went off the glove of Vorberg into the goal for the go ahead score at 8:30 of the fourth quarter. Milwaukee tied the game for the third time (3-3) when former Cleveland forward Giuliano Oliviero scored the power play goal off the cross from Greg Howes at 12:43.

The Force won the game in overtime (4-3) when midfielder Robbie Aristodemo came down the middle of the goal area and tapped in the game-winning goal at 2:29 of the extra session.

Cleveland will continue its road trip when the team travels to Baltimore, Maryland on Saturday, January 29 to take on the two time defending MISL Champion Baltimore Blast at the 1st Mariner Arena.
