OVERALL ¬Â¦
The Admirals and Stars return to the Bradley Center tonight for game six of their best-of-seven West Division Semifinals. The Ads grabbed a 3-2 series lead with an OT win last Friday Night. Milwaukee finished the regular season with 102 points and earned the first seed, while Texas captured the fourth seed with 92 points. This is the ninth consecutive season the Ads have qualified for the post-season and the 31st time in 34 years that Milwaukee has hit the ice in the playoffs. Including Friday's game the team's all-time playoff record stands at 96-125 and since joining the AHL in 2001 the Admirals have tallied a 50-39 mark with a 27-17 record at home.
THE SERIES SO FAR ¬Â¦
The teams split the two games in Milwaukee as the Ads took a 5-2 win in game one, while the Stars responded with a 3-1 victory in game 2. Gabriel Bourque finished the first game with two goals and three assists, while Chris Mueller chipped in a pair of goals and two assists as well to pace the Milwaukee offense. On Saturday night the Admirals jumped out a 1-0 lead, but Texas scored three unanswered goals to earn the win. Richard Bachman stopped 29 of 30 shots to earn the win. In game 4 the Admirals jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but again the Stars scored three straight to take a 3-2 OT win. Travis Morin got the game-winner in overtime, while Brad Lukowich tied the game with just 21 seconds to play. On Wednesday night the Ads picked up goals from Bourque, Taylor Beck, and Mark Van Guilder and this time held off a late charge by Texas for a 3-2 victory to even the series. Game 5 saw a role reversal of game 3, as the Ads tied the score late and then won it in overtime. Gabriel Bourque knotted the game at one with 4.4 seconds to go and then Ryan Thang won it with a slap shot from the right circle at 16:29 of OT.
LEADING THE CHARGE ¬Â¦
Admirals forwards Gabriel Bourque and Chris Mueller continue to lead the offensive charge for the team. In Friday night's OT win it was Mueller who centered the puck from behind the Texas net out to Bourque, who evened the score at one with less than five seconds to play. The tally was his scored his fifth goal of the playoffs and now gives him nine points, including at least a point in each game and a franchise record tying five points in game one. Mueller is just behind, having accumulated eight points on three goals and five assists and the duo is tied, along with Ryan Thang, for the team lead at +7. Their output shouldn't come as too much of a surprise as they were both at the top of the team's scoring during the regular season. Mueller paced the club with 26 goals and 50 points, while Bourque was third on the team and tops among rookies with 18 markers.
ON THE BRINK ¬Â¦
With a 3-2 series lead the Admirals have a chance to move on to the next round with a victory tonight. All-time Milwaukee has posted a 14-17 record in series clinching games, including a 7-7 record at home and a 9-8 mark since joining the AHL. The Ads have lost their last two series clinching contests, both game sevens, last year versus Chicago and in 2009 against Houston. The last time Milwaukee had a chance to advance that wasn't a game seven was when they led Rockford 3-0 in the West Division Semifinals in 2009.
STATS AND STUFF ¬Â¦
All-time in game number six the Admirals are 5-12, including a 4-4 mark since joining the AHL. Milwaukee has won their last two game sixes, including a 5-4 OT win in game 6 versus Chicago last season. When the Admirals lead a series 3-2 they are 3-3 with a 2-1 mark in the AHL. The last time Milwaukee held a 3-2 series advantage was back in the West Division Semifinals versus Iowa in 2005-06. They lost game six in that series, but rebounded to take game seven on their way to the Calder Cup Finals.
TALL IN NET ¬Â¦
The Admirals continue to get strong goaltending from rookie netminder Jeremy Smith. Smith turned aside a career high for either the regular season or the playoffs with 40 saves, including 13 in overtime, to earn the victory. Then in game four he posted 30 saves to pick up the win and now has a 2.05 goals against average and .934 save percentage in the post-season. Named co-MVP of the Kelly Cup Playoff with Cincinnati last season, Smith put together a successful first year in Milwaukee. The Dearborn, MI native finished the regular season with a 16-8-2 record to go along with a 2.26 GAA, a .921 save % and a pair of shutouts.
COMEBACK KIDS ¬Â¦
The Admirals win on Friday night marked just the 14th time in franchise post-season history when they have comeback to win when trailing heading into the third period. Their record now stands at 14-93, with a 6-53 mark on the road and an 8-40 mark at home. Including Friday night the last three times that they team has climbed out of a deficit after two periods has been away from home.
WELCOME BACK ¬Â¦
Admirals forward Kelsey Wilson saw his first action of the post-season during game five against the Stars after returning from an injury he suffered on in April 1 against Houston. In that game Wilson broke the Admirals AHL record for most games played with 294. The Sault Ste Marie, ON native was on a five game point streak prior to the injury, which matched a career best. Currently in his fourth campaign with the Ads, Wilson posted 22 points on ten goals and 12 assists in the regular season.
