EDENTON, N.C - Nick Miller pitched five innings and Jacob Reese homer in the Edenton steamers (27-8, 7-2) 6-3 win over the Petersburg Generals (7-30, 3-9) on Thursday Night at Historic Hicks Field.

Nick Miller (University of Northern Colorado) brought his 3-0 record to the ball park and made his sixth start of the season for Edenton. On the other side of the diamond Logan Sawyer made his first start of 2013 and seventh appearance overall.

Miller allowed four base hits in the top of the first inning but was able to dance out of the jam, thanks in large part to Jacob Reese (Eastern Illinois University) throwing out a would-be base stealer in the inning.

The Generals did crack the scoreboard first in the top of the second inning. Dan Johnson doubled and stole third base before Jordan Hopkins hit a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 1-0 Petersburg.

Edenton, against sawyer, plated three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Reese led-off with a double and Tyler Eager (Abilene Christian University) walked behind him. With two outs, Dominic Fratantuono (Towson University) knocked in both runners with a two-run single and then Trent Miller (Middle Tennessee State University) followed with an RBI double to make it 3-1 Edenton.

Petersburg got a run back in the top of the fourth against Nick Miller. When Nic Christopher walked, moved to second on a ground out and then stole third. After Brink Ambler walked the Generals executed a double steal perfectly and Christopher came home for the second run of the game for Petersburg and a 3-2 Steamers lead.

Chase Harris (University of New Mexico) came home to score in the bottom of the fifth after walking on Trent Miller's RBI groundout to make it 4-1 Edenton.

Nick Miller pitched five innings and allowed five hits, two runs (both earned) on three walks and he struck one batter out. He improved to 4-0 on the season with the victory.

Logan Sawyer lasted five innings also allowing three hits and four runs (all earned), he walked four and struck out four in the loss. He fell to 0-2 on the season.

Reese, in the bottom of the sixth against Jay Dee Johnson, connected for his first home run of the season, a two-run shot that gave Edenton a 6-2 lead.

After Andrew Nelson (St. Catharine College) pitched a perfect eighth inning, Jake McCoy (College of the Desert) came in and allowed a run on a Brent Turner RBI groundout but retired the side to close out the 6-3 Steamer win.

The win was Edenton's seventh in a row and it runs their league-leading record to 27-8 overall and 7-2 in the second half. Petersburg, with the loss, falls to 7-30 overall and 3-9 in the second half.

Edenton travels to Hampton, Va. tomorrow to take on the Peninsula Pilots at War Memorial Stadium before coming back home to host the Petersburg Generals on Saturday night.
