Blowfish Dazzle Copperheads in Two Hitter

COLUMBIA, S.C.- On a beautiful Thursday night the (6-1) second half Columbia Blowfish held host to the (6-3) second half Asheboro Copperheads at Historic Capital City Stadium.

The Blowfish opened the scoring in the bottom half of the first inning after Eros Modena (Bethune-Cookman) put himself on base with a one out single to center. Modena stole second and third, scoring on a wild pitch from Copperheads starter David Roseboom (USC Upstate).

Columbia would go on to score one more run in bottom half of the fifth, after Erik Barber (UCF) came home on an error by the Copperheads shortstop.

Blowfish pitching proved to be the dominant force tonight as they held Asheville to a two hit game, as the Blowfish would win by a score of 2-to-0 at Historic Capital City Stadium Thursday night.

The Starter for the Blowfish Thursday night was right-hander Cord Cockrell (Louisiana-Lafayette), who had a perfect game bid through five and a third, as that came to and end due to Copperhead first baseman, Copper Gunter, as he doubled to left-center. Cockrell would go on to throw six innings giving up no runs off of one hit, no walks, and six strikeouts. Connor Sullivan (Niagra) came on in relief for the final three innings, giving up no runs off of one hit, no walks, and one strikeout.

Starter for the Copperheads Thursday was left-hander David Roseboom (USC Upstate), throwing seven innings, giving up two runs, one earned, off of three hits, two walks, and three stirkeouts. Conner Porter (Memphis), came on in relief tossing one inning, giving up no runs, off of one hit, no walks, and one strikeout.

The Blowfish are now (7-1) in the second half of the season sitting in first place of the Western Standings of the Coastal Plain League.

The Columbia Blowfish will be back in action at home Wednesday night July 19th hosting the Wilmington Sharks with first pitch set for 7:05pm. Gates open at 6:00pm. It's also Crafty Beer Night!

The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
