Milkmen Offense Stays Hot in 7-1 Victory over RedHawks

The Milkmen met the RedHawks this afternoon in the rubber match of their three-game series in Fargo, with David Holmberg toeing the slab for Milwaukee against Ryan Williams. Fargo-Moorhead got on the board first in the opening inning, with Brennan Metzger and Trey Hair leading off with back-to-back singles. Metzger came around to score when the next batter, Correlle Prime, grounded into a double play. That would be the only run that Fargo-Moorhead would scratch across during the game, however.

The Milkmen offense once again had a field day at Newman Outdoor, beginning with a three-run third inning. Shortstop Aaron Hill led off the frame with a double -- his first of three hits on the day -- and moved up to third when Brett Vertigan singled. Dylan Tice followed with a double to score Hill and put runners on second and third, and then DH Mason Davis singled to score both men and make it a 3-1 game.

Milwaukee scored a single run in the fourth inning thanks to a solo shot from Hill, added another run in the sixth on a sac fly from Christian Correa, tallied one more in the eighth on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Adam Walker, and their final run crossed the plate in the ninth thanks to another RBI hit from Dylan Tice. The Milkmen recorded 13 hits for the game one day after setting a new franchise record with 19 hits in last night's game, with Hill (3), Vertigan (3), Tice (2), and Walker (2) leading the charge. Davis, Logan Trowbridge, and David Washington each added a single hit apiece.

Holmberg worked into the seventh inning for Milwaukee, allowing only that single run on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts across 6.1 innings pitched. He got into a jam in that seventh frame when the first batter, Christian Ibarra, reached on an error and Blake Grant-Parks followed with a single. After Holmberg struck out Alex Boxwell to end his outing, Peyton Gray was called upon to put out the fire. He walked Metzger to load the bases with one out, but then punched out back-to-back batters to end the threat. Karch Kowalczyk and Anthony Bender each tossed scoreless innings to close out the 7-1 victory and give Milwaukee the series win at two games to one.

The Milkmen continue their road trip with a three-game series at the Sioux Falls, SD hub against the St. Paul Saints. First pitch tomorrow night is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
