Hamilton Tiger-Cats News Release

Veteran Canadian receiver MIKE MORREALE is headed back to Hamilton!

The 32 year old Hamilton native will be in a Tiger-Cat uniform this season for his second go-round with the team after agreeing to contract terms with the ‘Cats. Morreale previously spent five seasons in Hamilton between 1997 and 2001 before signing with the Toronto Argonauts as a free agent in May of 2002.

Selected by the B.C. Lions in the second round, 17th overall, of the Canadian College Draft in 1994, Morreale attended the Lions’ training camp but was released. Morreale’s rookie season in 1995 started a two year stint with the Toronto Argonauts. In the 1996 season, he played 18 regular season games as well as the Eastern Final and the Grey Cup. He earned his first of two career Grey Cup rings as the Argos defeated the Eskimos 43-37.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats first signed Morreale as a free agent in June of 1997. Starting 11 of 18 games at slotback, the 6’3” receiver was third among Tiger-Cats with 38 catches for 466 yards and 2 touchdowns. In 1998, Morreale was selected the CFL’s Outstanding Canadian and was second among Tiger-Cats and seventh in the CFL with 1,076 yards receiving. Also, in 1998, Morreale surpassed 1,000 yards receiving for the first time in his career to become the first non-import receiver to surpass 1,000 yards for the Tiger-Cats since Ken Evraire in 1992.

Morreale’s return to Hamilton was enthusiastically endorsed by Hamilton Head Coach Greg Marshall. “Mike has already had some great seasons as a Tiger-Cat. We’re looking for him to pick it up and start doing it all over again. Mike wants to finish his career here and we’re excited to have him back.”

Marshall describes Morreale as the kind of player who gives everything, every game. “Mike plays hard, he plays with a lot of emotion. He’s also a big target on the field. Mike is someone that quarterback Danny McManus would have a lot of confidence in.” Marshall also added, “I trust Mike Morreale and I have faith in him.”
