Mike Kompon Named UHL Rookie of the Year

Moline, Ill. - The United Hockey League announced today that Mallards forward Mike Kompon is the league's Rookie of the Year. The skilled forward recorded 90 points on 39 goals and 51 assists in his first campaign in pro hockey. The American Hockey League's Houston Aeros signed Kompon, a University of Miami (Ohio) product, July 31.

Kompon led all UHL rookies in goals, assists and points. He also ranked first amongst UHL first-year players in power-play goals (17) and power-play points (33). He was second in shots (230), plus-minus (plus 25) and game-winning goals (five) amongst UHL rookies.

The Thunder Bay, Ontario native also led the Mallards roster in goals, assists and points. Kompon was tops amongst Mallards in power-play goals and tied for the team lead in game-winning goals. His plus 25 rating also led the team.

The Aeros are currently trailing their West Division Semifinals series against Chicago 1-0. Game 2 is Thursday in Chicago at 7 p.m.
