The 69th Calder Cup Playoffs opened on Tuesday night with Chicago taking a 4-1 decision over Houston in Game 1 of their West Division semifinal at Allstate Arena... Brad Larsen scored two goals and added an assist for the Wolves, who had been 3-6 in their nine previous AHL playoff series openers... Former Aero Cory Larose recorded two assists for Chicago.

The other three division semifinals in the Western Conference face off tonight, beginning in St. John's as the Maple Leafs host Manitoba (Leafs TV, 6:05 ET)... St. John's is in the playoffs for the first time since 2002; the Moose are back after missing the party last spring... The Maple Leafs finished the regular season with three straight wins to clinch second place and home-ice advantage in the series... Kyle Wellwood owned the Moose this year, with 19 points (6g, 13a) in eight meetings... Lee Goren led Manitoba with 32 goals and a plus-24 rating in the regular season... Leafs head coach Doug Shedden and Moose counterpart Randy Carlyle were teammates with the Pittsburgh Penguins (1981-84).

Rochester begins its 39th postseason appearance with Game 1 of a division semifinal series against Hamilton tonight (7:05 ET)... The Americans tied an AHL record for fewest goals allowed (3) in a four-game series during last year's sweep of the Bulldogs... Rochester dropped eight of its final 11 regular-season matches, but still finished first overall in the AHL... Rochester's All-Rookie forward Thomas Vanek scored 17 goals in his last 14 games, including 12 on the power play... Former All-Star defenseman Mike Komisarek had five points (1g, 4a) and a plus-6 rating (and Hamilton was 13-5-1-1 with him in the lineup) after returning from injury on Mar. 4.

For the second year in a row, Milwaukee and Cincinnati meet in the West Division semis; Game 1 is tonight at the Bradley Center (8:00 ET, live video webcast on caldercup.com)... The Mighty Ducks stole the opener in overtime last spring and had a 3-2 series lead before the Admirals won Games 6 and 7 and, three rounds later, the Calder Cup... Milwaukee is on a seven-game postseason winning streak... Admirals forward Simon Gamache finished fifth in the AHL in scoring with 86 points... Frederic Cassivi, a member of Chicago's Calder Cup-winning team in 2002, was 14-4-1 with seven shutouts for Cincinnati after the All-Star break.
