
Mike Jones Named Offensive Player of the Week

TUCSON, ARIZONA - Tucson Sugar Skulls running back Mike Jones was named the IFL's Offensive Player of the Week for a performance that helped put his team into the playoffs in its first year as a franchise.
Jones rushed for 116 yards and three touchdowns in the Sugar Skulls' 55-50, playoff-clinching victory over the Quad City Steamwheelers on Saturday in Tucson. Jones finished the regular season as the IFL's leader in average rushing yards per game at 59.3 yards per game. He finished with 711 total rushing yards, just nine yards behind Nebraska quarterback Tommy Armstrong who won the league rushing title which is based on total yards. Armstrong played in 14 games while Jones played in 12.
It is the seventh Player of the Week award for the Sugar Skulls. Defensive back Dee Maggitt Jr. and defensive lineman Rayshawn Henderson both won the award on defense. Maggitt also won it for special teams. Quarterback Matt Behrendt won the award for offense, and placekicker Diego Marquez won it for special teams.
The Sugar Skulls open the playoffs Sunday when they visit the Sioux Falls Storm for a 1 p.m. game. The game will be live streamed on the IFL YouTube channel.
