Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA, Neb. - On July 17, Werner Park hosts a historic night for the Omaha Storm Chasers franchise as the team will honor all-time great manager Mike Jirschele by officially retiring his jersey and immortalizing him with his very own bobblehead presented by Principal Financial Group. Jirschele, currently the Royals third base coach, will be in attendance for the first nationally televised Storm Chasers home game history as part of Minor League Baseball's Game of the Week on CBS Sports Network.
The first 1,500 fans through the gates of Werner Park that night will receive the Mike Jirschele Bobblehead, and will have the opportunity to get it signed by the man himself from 6:30-7:20 p.m. at the "Storm Chasers Live" booth in the main concourse. Jirschele will then head down to the field where he led Omaha to two PCL Championships and the 2013 Triple-A National Championship to have his #23 jersey retired, the fourth number retirement in franchise history (George Brett, Frank White and Dick Howser).
Before all the festivities inside of Werner Park, the Storm Chasers will host a pre-game tailgate party from 5:30-7:00 p.m. This party will feature an appearance from the world-renowned Budweiser Clydesdales, and will have live music and Thirsty Thursday drink specials. The night will be capped off with post-game fireworks.
Starting on July 10, fans can prepare for "Mike Jirschele Night" by purchasing "Be Like Mike" shirts at the Storm Front Team Store. Portions of the sale will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, a charity that Mike Jirschele is extremely involved with. On July 17, there will be various places throughout Werner Park where fans can make a donation to the MDA.
Tickets to "Mike Jirschele Night" are going fast, so contact the Werner Park Ticket Office at (402) 738-5100 or go online to www.omahastormchaser.com/tickets to help the Storm Chasers honor a franchise legend in Jirschele. Fans attending the game are encouraged to "Blue Out" Werner Park for the CBS Sports Network broadcast!
