Grant Green hit a double and a triple and knocked in three runs as the Bees defeated the Rainiers 9-3 Wednesday night at Smith's Ballpark. Tacoma started the scoring when Justin Smoak hit a two-run homer to right field in the first. The Bees responded with a four-run bottom half when Green hit a line drive double to right field that scored Tony Campana and J.B. Shuck. Luis Jimenez brought Green home with his 15th homer of the season over the left field fence. The Bees expanded the lead in the second with John Hester, Shuck and Green crossing the plate. Roberto Lopez hit his tenth home run of the season, a solo shot to left field off of Andrew Carraway in the third inning. Green finished the night 2-for-5 in his first game back after being optioned to Salt Lake by the Angels on Tuesday. J.B. Shuck went 4-for-5 knocking in three and crossing the plate twice.
"It was nice coming back and getting at bats. I didn't get many at bats up with the Angels. Getting a double in the first at-bat and a triple in the second at-bat was really nice," said Grant Green. "Overall it felt good. It was a successful day getting the win."
Salt Lake starter Caleb Clay (2-1) earned his second victory of the season after pitching six innings striking out four while allowing nine hits and four runs. Andrew Carraway (4-5) took the loss giving up nine hits and eight runs in 2.1 innings pitched.
The Bees finish up the homestand against Tacoma on Thursday night. Every Thursday night at Smith's Ballpark is Thirsty Thursday with $2.75 drinks. Additional information and tickets can be found at slbees.com and at Smith's Ballpark box office.
