ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced Thursday that they have recalled RHP Matt West from the Round Rock Express. West will be in uniform and available to pitch against Houston Thursday as he looks to make his major league debut.

West joined the Express bullpen at the beginning of May after spending the first month of the season with Double-A Frisco. In 19 relief appearances with Round Rock, the right-hander went 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA (12 ER/24.0 IP) and 28 strikeouts. While with Frisco, West went 2-0-3 with a 0.68 ERA (1 ER/13.1 IP) and 10 strikeouts in eight appearances to earn Texas Rangers Reliever of the Month honors for April.

West, 25, was actually selected by Texas as a third baseman in the second round of the 2007 first-year player draft out of Bellaire High School in Houston, TX. After batting .241 with 22 homers and 150 RBI over his first four professional seasons, he transitioned to pitching prior to the 2011 season. Entering this season, West had pitched in just 47.1 innings as a professional.

As a corresponding move, Express INF Jason Donald has been activated from the disabled list.

Additionally, C Geovany Soto has been transferred to Double-A Frisco where he will continue his rehab assignment.
