Trumbo Homers Again in Reno Rout

RENO, Nev. - Mark Trumbo, continuing his Major-League rehab assignment with Reno, hit his third home run in as many games as the Aces defeated the Las Vegas 51s, 15-4 Wednesday night at Aces Ballpark.

Trumbo, recovering from a stress fracture in his left foot, also walked and scored another run before being pulled from the lineup in the top of the 6th inning.

Hitting out of the leadoff spot for the first time this season, Aaron Cunningham provided an offensive spark for Reno. The Aces outfielder tied a season high with three hits, and drove in three RBI to set a new season mark. Alfredo Marte paced the Aces with four RBIs on the night.

The Aces sent 10 men to the plate in both the second and third innings to jump out to an early 11-0 lead. Following RBI singles by Bobby Wilson and Cunningham in the second, Alfredo Marte hit his 10th home run of the season, a three-run shot to put Reno up 5-0. Trumbo then followed with a solo home run, marking the fifth time this season that the Aces have hit consecutive home runs.

Reno struck for five more runs in the third, the final three scoring with two down in the inning.

Las Vegas broke up the shutout in the fifth as third baseman Wilmer Flores drove in two with a two-out double. The 51s tacked on two more in the eighth on an Andrew Brown RBI single and an RBI groundout by Kevin Plawecki.

After being staked to an early lead, Andrew Chafin gave up up two runs on five hits through six. Chafin struck out six and walked three to even his season record at 3-3.

Las Vegas starter Darin Gorski suffered the worst loss of his Triple-A career, giving up eight runs on seven hits through 2 1/3 innings. His previous start against Reno came on May 31, when he gave up three runs through 6 1/3 in a no-decision.

In all, Las Vegas sent six players to the mound, including infielder Omar Quintanilla in the eighth inning. It was the third time this homestand that the Aces have faced a position player coming in as a relief pitcher; Quintanilla also pitched an inning of relief against Reno on Monday night, and Sacramento sent Colin Walsh to the mound during an Aces rout on Saturday night.

The final game of the four-game series is set for Thursday at Aces Ballpark. Reno can win the season series with a victory, while Vegas tries for an 8-8 season series split. Right-hander Bo Schultz (7-5, 5.29 ERA) starts for Reno against Las Vegas right-hander Tyler Pill, who is set to make his first career Triple-A start. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
