Huntsville Havoc News Release

HUNTSVILLE - On a night where the Havoc paid tribute to the Mighty Ducks hockey film trilogy, Huntsville took an early lead and never looked back, earning a 3-1 win and a weekend sweep of the Birmingham Bulls.

With the win, the Havoc also edge out the Bulls for the regular season series 5 wins to 4.

"Tonight was a lot of fun," said Havoc Head Coach Glenn Detulleo. "It had a playoff feel again, just like last night. We battled extremely hard and earned another huge two points in the standings."

In honor of the film franchise, the team wore three different designs of sweaters inspired by Mighty Ducks jerseys from all three movies, wearing a new uniform for each period. The jerseys will be auctioned off for charity.

Huntsville (29-14-3) opened the scoring on a powerplay less than five minutes in to the game. Derek Perl wristed a shot from the top of the slot through traffic to give the Havoc the early lead.

Just past the 15-minute mark in the period, as John Schiavo was cruising in to the corner, he made a beautiful no-look backhand pass to Tyler Piacentini skating in front of the crease. The Massachusetts native popped the puck between two defenders and over the keeper's blocker to double Huntsville's lead heading in to the first break.

Birmingham (32-14-2) served notice that they were not going away quietly, scoring 1:05 in to the second period. However, the Havoc and goalie Max Milosek -- who saved 25 of 26 shots on the night - slammed the door on the Bulls the rest of the way.

Peter Sikalis put an exclamation point on the game by scoring on an end-to-end shot on an empty net.

Schiavo recorded two assists on the night and Sikalis has now scored eight points in seven games (6g, 2a).

The Havoc scored one powerplay goal on seven chances but kept the Bulls off the board on six opportunities with the extra attacker.

Next Game

The Havoc are on the road in Georgia next weekend to take on the Macon Mayhem on March 15 and 16. The puck drops both nights at 6:30 p.m. CST. Follow the team on social media to see where you can either watch or listen to the game.

The team is back in the Rocket City on Tuesady, March 26 to host the Pensacola Ice Flyers for Taco Tuesday. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
