Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Knoxville, TN (March 9, 2019) Stefan Brucato scored the game winning goal with 12:41 remaining in the game and the Ice Bears held on to beat the Peoria Rivermen 3-1 on Saturday at the Civic Coliseum.
Cody Porter made 33 saves for Knoxville, which won its fifth straight. The Ice Bears swept a pair of two-game weekends over the Rivermen since the start of March.
Roberts Locans carried the puck into the neutral zone and dropped it back to Scott Cuthrell, who skated down the right side outside the circle. Cuthrell's centering pass deflected off a Rivermen skate and landed right on Brucato's stick in the slot. He buried the puck to put Knoxville ahead for good.
After a scoreless first period Bryce Nielsen got Knoxville on the board after Ricky Kramer retrieved the puck behind the Peoria net and found Nielsen all alone in front of the crease. Nielsen's one-timer beat Storm Phaneuf to give the Ice Bears the lead at 6:01.
Justin Greenberg tied the game for Peoria by redirecting Alex Hagaman's shot from the left circle past Cody Porter at 11:53.
Nielsen lifted the puck down the ice from behind his own blue line into an empty Peoria net with 1:28 left to seal the win.
Knoxville heads south on Friday to visit Pensacola for a two game series. Watch the Ice Bears as they look to extend their five game winning streak.
