CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Mighty Ducks named Darryl Williams as the team's new assistant coach on Tuesday. Williams joins new head coach Brad Shaw's staff after serving the previous two seasons as a head coach with the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the WCHL.

"I'm looking forward to working with him," said Shaw, who was teammates with Williams in Detroit of the now-defunct IHL in 1995-96. "He's a hard-working, passionate guy about hockey with a strong work ethic and high level of intensity. His style will complement my style nicely."

Williams, 34, played professional hockey for 11 seasons from 1988-89 through 1998-99 in the AHL and IHL with New Haven, Phoenix, Detroit and Long Beach, recording 127 goals and 156 assists for 283 points with 2,481 penalty minutes in 676 games. The Mt. Pearl, Newfoundland native also played in the NHL with Los Angeles in 1993-94, going scoreless in two games.

After retiring as a player, Williams began his coaching career as an assistant with Long Beach of the IHL in 1999-00. He was named the Ice Dogs head coach when they joined the WCHL in 2000-01, guiding the club to a 63-34-12 record for a .633 winning percentage in two seasons.
