CORPUS CHRISTI - Midland's two-out, two-run 10th-inning rally was the difference in a 7-6 victory over Corpus Christi Friday at Whataburger Field before 5,955.

Brendan McCurry (1-3) caught Tyler Marincov looking and induced a ground ball out off the bat of Viosergy Rosa before allowing Wade Kirkland's single and walks to Franklin Barreto and Matt Chapman. Kirkland and Barreto scored when shortstop Alex Bregman committed a throwing error after picking up Josh Rodriguez's ground ball.

Nick Tanielu opened the home 10th with a solo home run off Kyle Finnegan (1-1), who worked the final three innings, to pull the Hooks (37-22) within one.

The RockHounds (28-31) pushed a run across in the second, Kirkland scoring from third while Barreto occupied the Hooks in a botched two-out rundown between first and second. Both singled to begin the frame before Edison Frias struck out Chapman and Rodriguez.

Consecutive singles by Alfredo Gonzalez and Alejandro Garcia, plus Teoscar Hernandez's bunt sacrifice, set the stage for Bregman's two-run single into right field for Corpus Christi during the third.

The Hooks plated three off Corey Walter with two away in their next turn. Garcia's soft liner found green in right-center to plate Tanielu (single) and Conrad Gregor (double). Garcia came around on Hernandez's rap to left.

The RockHounds extended their fifth long enough to get Frias removed from the game, do some damage to reliever Evan Grills, and tie the contest at 5. Frias retired the first two batters he faced, but walked Andy Paz and Brett Vertigan. Danny Oh's single scored Paz and sent Frias to the dugout. Enter Grills, who was tagged for Marincov's run-scoring single and a two-run double from Rosa.

Frias struck out eight over 4 2/3, recording three hits and three walks His pitch count was 86 (54). Walter was finished after just four innings, eight hits, a walk, and three strikeouts.

Midland wasted a Rosa lead-off double in the eighth, Grills fanning Chapman with pinch-runner J.P. Sportman at third for the last out. It was Chapman's fourth strikeout of the evening.

The Hooks then had runners at second and third and nobody out, but came away empty when Finnegan got Garcia and Hernandez to fly out. Corpus Christi was 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

Despite the rough greeting, Grills proved efficient during his stint, throwing no more than 10 pitches in each of his 4 1/3 innings.

Gonzalez owns a seven-game hitting streak.

The first 1,750 fans at Saturday's 7:05 contest between the Hooks and San Antonio Missions receive a Hooks U.S. Army Jersey from CITGO. Cy Sneed (3-1) pitches for Corpus Christi against Aaron Northcraft. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
