Midland Takes Game Two over Frisco 3-1

FRISCO, TX- Midland pulled ahead early and never looked back, defeating Frisco 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The RockHounds scored a run in each of the first three innings, while the "˜Riders only run came off a solo homer by Chris McGuiness in the second. In the game, Frisco left a season high 12 men on base, and were 0-7 with runners in scoring position.

The RockHounds scored in their first at-bats off "˜Riders starter Tim Murphy (1-3). Hitless Saturday night, Tyler Ladendorf left the yard for just the second time this season, to make it 1-0 Midland.

In the second the visitors tacked on their second run. Michael Spina led off the inning with a walk, and then moved to third on a base hit by Jeremy Barfield. With men at the corners, Murphy induced a fly out by Ryan Ortiz, but Dusty Coleman singled to left, to bring home Spina.

Looking at a 2-0 deficit, the RoughRiders pulled within a run in the bottom of the inning. Hitting against "˜Hounds starter Gary Daley (4-1), Chris McGuiness hit a solo shot to left. It was the first baseman's sixth homer of the season, making it 2-1.

That's as close as Frisco would get, as the RockHounds tacked on an additional run in the third. Ladendorf opened the frame with a walk, and moved to third on a throwing error by McGuiness. A base hit by Michael Choice later scored Ladendorf, to give Midland its third run.

Pitching in his sixth game of the season, Daley never allowed another run. The right-hander went 5.2 innings, allowing six hits, and one earned run. James Simmons and Carlos Hernandez worked a combined two innings of scoreless relief, while Jonathan Ortiz earned his sixth save, working 1.1 innings, allowing two hits.

"˜Riders starter Tim Murphy picked up the loss, going five innings and surrendering three runs. He walked three and struck out three.

Frisco plays game three Monday night against the Midland RockHounds. Justin Grimm (5-1, 1.62) tosses for the 'Riders, he will be opposed by Hounds right-hander A.J Griffin (3-0, 1.93).
