Albany River Rats News Release

Providence, RI - River Rats forward Jacob Micflikier recorded his first career AHL hat trick to power Albany to a 4-1 victory over the Providence Bruins on Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin Donuts Center.

Rookie defenseman Jamie McBain recorded three assists on the night, and 2009-10 AHL All-Star goaltender Justin Peters made 29 saves to give the River Rats their second straight win.

Team points leader Jerome Samson netted the first period's only goal at 11:43, and Micflikier took care of the rest with one tally in the middle frame and two in the third.

Micflikier's first goal of the night gave the River Rats a 2-0 lead at 5:40 of the second period on a rebound from linemate Stefan Chaput. His second marker made it 3-0 just 1:42 into the third, when the undersized winger deflected a long slap shot from McBain. Providence forward Jeff LoVecchio spoiled Peters' shutout bid with a breakaway tally at 8:07 of the final stanza, but Micflikier completed his hat trick at 13:15 when McBain's dump-in attempt caromed to open ice for a big blast past Bruins goalie Kevin Regan.

Peters earned his 15th win of the season as Albany improved to 23-16-2-2; he joins defenseman Bryan Rodney as the River Rats representative at the 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic this Monday and Tuesday night in Portland. Regan stopped 32-of-26 shots for the Bruins and took the loss, as Providence fell to 20-21-3-0 this year. Albany out-shot the P-Bruins 36-30 and went 1-for-5 on the power play, while Providence was 0-for-2 on the man-advantage.

Albany's next home game is Friday, January 22nd against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:00 p.m. River Rats 2009-10 pro-rated season and flexible ticket packages are now on sale at the River Rats executive offices at the Times Union Center, by calling (518) 487-2244 or by logging onto www.albanyriverrats.com.
