Miami FC Sign South Florida Native Brian Sylvestre
January 23, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Miami FC News Release
MIAMI - The Miami FC announced on Thursday that goalkeeper Brian Sylvestre has joined club ahead of its inaugural 2020 USL Championship Season*. Per club policy, further contract details were not disclosed.
Born in Hollywood, Florida, Sylvestre spent the 2019 season with USL League One's Forward Madison FC, where he allowed just three goals in their last eight league matches. Along with several standout regular season performances, the goalkeeper helped lead Forward Madison to the League One semifinals in its inaugural season.
After playing for Schultz Academy and Weston FC at the youth level, Sylvestre went on to join the IMG Soccer Academy program in 2008, before making the jump to Vancouver's Academy Program a year later. His performances in the academy led him to sign his first professional contract with the Whitecaps in March 2011.
Sylvestre experience includes 12 starts for Major League Soccer's Philadelphia Union in 2015, while also suiting up for Vancouver Whitecaps (2011-2012) and L.A. Galaxy (2018). In his 12 appearances for the Union, he recorded five shutouts.
"Brian is another great addition to Miami FC," said Miami FC head coach Nelson Vargas. "He has MLS and USL experience which is always a plus. He solidifies an already very good core of goalkeepers and will raise the competition level."
From 2015 to 2017, Sylvestre started in over 50 matches for North Carolina FC (formerly known as Carolina RailHawks).
At 6'5", Sylvestre is known for his acrobatic saves under the posts, which will sure catch the eyes of all The Miami FC fans at Riccardo Silva Stadium in 2020.
