JUPITER, Fla. - Another game, another shutout for the St. Lucie Mets pitching staff.
The Mets blanked the Palm Beach Cardinals 5-0 on Tuesday at Roger Dean Stadium for their fourth shutout victory in the last five games. It was their 11th shutout of the season.
Scarlyn Reyes and three relievers combined for the zeroes on Monday. Reyes logged six innings and allowed just one single. He walked two and struck out seven. Reyes has now struck out 18 in 12 scoreless innings in his last two starts.
Kelly Secrest, Robby Coles and Mike Hepple each pitched an inning of relief to finish out the game.
The Cardinals only managed two hits. Both were singles.
The Mets offense flexed some muscle. Kevin Taylor started the scoring in the sixth with a RBI triple. Tomas Nido followed with a two-run homer, his third of the season, to put the Mets up 3-0.
Jhoan Urena led off the ninth with a home run. Amed Rosario added a RBI single later in the frame. It was his 40th RBI of the season.
Matt Pearce took the loss for the Cardinals. He was tagged for three runs in seven innings.
The Mets pitching staff has not allowed an earned run in 44 consecutive innings.
The Mets have won five in a row and nine of their last 11.
Next Up: The Mets (35-31) will go for the sweep of the Cardinals (31-36) at Roger Dean Stadium on Wednesday. First pitch is 6:30 p.m. It is the final game of the first half.
