Dunedin Blue Jays News Release

DUNEDIN, FL - LF Jonathan Davis supplied the first and last runs of Monday night's 3-2 win for the Dunedin Blue Jays (31-36) including a walk-off single in the ninth inning. Davis ripped an opposite field single down the first base line with the bases loaded and one out to beat Brevard County (23-43).

Davis also began the scoring in the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run to right field, his tenth of the year, off RHP Bubba Derby. The Jays added a second run an inning later when C Jorge Saez's leadoff double turned into a sacrifice fly for 3B Gunnar Heidt. Derby, who allowed the two runs over six innings, was outdueled by Jays' starter RHP Justin Shafer. The Jays' righty allowed just two hits and an unearned run over six innings, leaving with the lead.

LHP Jose Fernandez (H, 4) held down the fort in a 2-1 game by striking out a pair through a clean seventh frame. LHP Colton Turner (BS, W, 3-0) fanned the first two batters in the top of the eighth, but ran into trouble before recording the final out. DH Elvis Rubio singled up the middle followed by a RF Clint Coulter walk. Rubio came around to score on a 2B George Iskenderian single, tying the game at two.

RHP Junior Rincon (L, 0-2) retired the first seven batters he faced, but CF D.J. Davis doubled with one out in the ninth to become the eventual game-winning run. Heidt and 2B Dickie Joe Thon then walked which chased Rincon from the game. RHP Josh Uhen relieved Rincon and surrendered the single to Jonathan Davis, the first batter he faced, giving Dunedin a 3-2 victory.

Game two of a three game set begins a 6:30 pm on Tuesday night. RHP Conner Greene opposes RHP Eric Hanhold.
