Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release
FORT MYERS, FL - It had to end sometime.
Yonny Chirinos' run of six consecutive victories to start his stint in the Stone Crabs' rotation is over, as the right-hander allowed four runs in six innings and Charlotte fell 7-2 to the Fort Myers Miracle at Hammond Stadium on Monday night.
Chirinos (6-1) did complete at least six innings for the seventh straight outing, but took the loss. It was the first loss for the Stone Crabs in 13 swings through this spot in the rotation, between Chirinos and injured ace Brent Honeywell. The spot is 12-2 for the year.
The Stone Crabs actually took the first lead of the night. Andrew Velazquez singled to the infield to lead off the game, and the red-hot Alec Sole ripped a double to left to score Velazquez and move ahead 1-0. Sole went to third on the play thanks to a throwing error by Logan Wade, then scored on a Mac James groundout to make it 2-0 Charlotte.
That was the only offense the Stone Crabs would muster against left-hander Randy Rosario (3-5), who tossed six solid innings for the win. Charlotte managed just one baserunner in the final three innings against Luke Bard and Nick Anderson, the latter of whom struck out all three batters who opposed him in the ninth.
Meanwhile, Fort Myers went to work against Chirinos. Alex Perez led off the third with a base hit, and Brian Navarreto instantly tied the ballgame with a two-run shot to left. In the fourth, Max Murphy slapped a one-out double down the right-field line, and Trey Vavra followed up with a dinger of his own, putting the Miracle ahead 4-2. Fort Myers scored three against the Charlotte bullpen to ice the game.
The series continues on Tuesday night at Hammond Stadium. RHP Henry Centeno (1-1, 2.31) takes the ball in his fourth start for Charlotte against an undetermined pitcher for Fort Myers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
