JUPITER, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets thoroughly dominated the Jupiter Hammerheads 17-0 on Monday at Roger Dean Stadium.
The Mets set season highs in runs, hits (21) and margin of victory. They scored four runs in the first inning, four in the second, three in third and five runs in the ninth. They batted around in three of their innings.
Champ Stuart, Kevin Taylor Wuilmer Becerra, Luis Guillorme and Jhoan Urena produced three-hit games. Vinny Sienna, John Mora and Lednier Ricardo had two hits apiece.
Becerra drove in five runs. He hit a two-run homer, his first in the FSL, and a two run double.
Taylor got the scoring started in the first with a three-run double off starter Michael Mader. Taylor also scored three times.
The Mets loaded the bases three times and doubled all three times (Taylor, Becerra, Mora). They entered the game just 9 for 62 with the bases loaded.
Not to be lost in all the offense was Mets starter Ricky Knapp. He pitched seven scoreless innings. He allowed four hits, walked three and struck out five. Knapp pitched his ninth quality start and lowered his ERA to 1.94.
Mike Hepple and Jimmy Duff contributed scoreless innings to complete the Mets 12th shutout of the year.
The Mets managed to score 17 runs and collect 21 hits despite striking out 15 times.
Next Up: The Mets (37-35, 2-3) travel to Port Charlotte to take on the Stone Crabs on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m.
