
Yankees Sweep DH as Rogers, Acevedo Blank Manatees

TAMPA, Fla. - Josh Rogers and Domingo Acevedo tossed a pair of complete-game shutouts as the Tampa Yankees (3-2, 45-29) swept the Brevard County Manatees (0-5, 23-50) with identical 2-0 finals in a doubleheader on Monday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
Vicente Conde tallied the first of his four hits with a two-out double in the bottom of the second against RHP Eric Hanhold in game one. Bo Thompson followed with a single to left and Conde beat the throw to the plate by leftfielder Malik Collymore.
In the fifth, Conde lined a leadoff double into left and advanced to third on a groundout by Thompson. Wes Wilson padded the Tampa lead with an RBI sacrifice fly.
Rogers (W, 5-3) retired the first nine batters he faced before Collymore reached on a bunt single to begin the fourth. The 21-year-old held Brevard County to three infield singles and a hit-batter in seven scoreless frames for his second shutout of the season. Rogers tallied six strikeouts, issued no walks and threw 63 of 88 pitches for strikes.
Hanhold (L, 2-9) pitched all six innings for the Manatees, allowing two earned runs on six hits. The righty walked one, struck out one and tossed 48 of 77 pitches for strikes.
Game two remained scoreless until the Yankees scored in the fourth off LHP Kodi Medeiros. Abiatal Avelino, Zack Zehner and Conde hit three consecutive singles, with Avelino scoring on the base hit by Conde.
Acevedo (W, 1-1) followed the performance by Rogers with his first-career complete-game shutout. The right-hander scattered five hits and a hit-batter in seven scoreless innings. Acevedo struck out six, walked none and threw 55 of his 73 pitches for strikes.
Austin Aune provide the second Tampa run with a leadoff home run in the sixth off LHP Clint Terry. It was his fifth homer and 33rd RBI.
Medeiros (L, 3-7) allowed one earned run on five hits, one walk and one hit-batter in four innings, striking out three and throwing 41 of 65 pitches for strikes.
Conde combined to go 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Thairo Estrada (2-for-5, BB), Avelino (2-for-6, 2B, R) and Aune (2-for-6, HR, RBI, R) hit safely in both games. Zehner (2-for-3) singled twice in game two.
The series wraps up on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. with LHP James Reeves (2-1, 1.49 ERA) starting for Tampa. The starting pitcher for Brevard County is TBA.
