St. Lucie Mets News Release
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets snapped a season-long seven game losing streak in thrilling fashion with an 8-5 comeback win over the Jupiter Hammerheads on Tuesday at Clover Park.
Trailing 5-1 at the seventh inning stretch, the Mets scored six runs in the home half of the seventh to rally for the victory. Justin Guerrera got the scoring started with a two-run homer to make it 5-3.
Two hit batters and a walk loaded the bases for Junior Tilien. A wild pitch by Edison Suriel (1-4) brought home Alex Ramirez to make it 5-4. Tilien then drove a pitch down the right field line that dropped in just fair for a two-run double to plate Jack-Thomas Wold and Stanley Consuegra for a 6-5 Mets lead.
Carlos Dominguez hustled for a run-scoring infield single later in the seventh to make it 7-5.
Consuegra added a sac fly in the eighth for the final run.
Raimon Gomez pitched a perfect eighth and ninth with three strikeouts to get his first save.
Trey McLoughlin (3-2) also tossed two scoreless innings to get the win.
The Mets bullpen combined for 5.0 shutout innings.
Mets starter Jeffrey Colon gave up four runs in the first inning but settled down to pitch four solid innings. He gave up five runs total.
The Mets (41-28, 1-3) and Hammerheads (36-32, 2-2) play the second game of their series on Wednesday. It's Camp Day at Clover Park with a special first pitch time of 12:10 p.m.
