St. Lucie Mets News Release
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets broke out of their offensive funk by clubbing 14 hits in a 6-2 win over the Florida Fire Frogs on Thursday at First Data Field.
It was the first home win for the Mets in their sixth try. They bashed six doubles, including two by Patrick Mazeika to race out to a big lead.
Starting pitcher Thomas McIlraith overcame a shaky first inning to get the win. He tossed five innings, scattering five hits and one run. He allowed a run in the first, but then induced an inning-ending double play to strand a runner on third base.
The Mets teed off on Fire Frogs starter Drew Harrington in the third. The Mets collected six consecutive hits in the frame. Wuilmer Becerra's two-run double gave the Mets a 2-1 lead. Two batters later Mazeika smacked the first of his two-run doubles to put the Mets up 4-1.
Mazeika doubled home J.C. Rodriguez and Jhoan Urena in the fifth inning to make it 6-1.
Darwin Ramos pitched two effective innings, giving up just a solo home run. Tyler Bashlor struck out four batters in the final two innings to close out the game.
Urena went 3 for 4. Rodriguez, Becerra, Mazeika and Dan Rizzie had two hits apiece. Urena and Becerra extended their hitting streaks to seven games.
The Mets (3-5) and Fire Frogs (4-4) battle again at First Data Field on Friday at 6:30 p.m. All Klutch's Kids Crew members get in for free. It is free to sign up for the kids club.
