Mets End Skid with 6-4 Victory over Bradenton

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets snapped a three-game losing streak with a 6-4 win over the Bradenton Marauders on Friday at Tradition Field.

David Thompson hit a home run in the first inning and went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a walk to help kick start a sluggish offense. Mets leadoff hitter Jonathan Johnson reached base five times by going 2 for 2 with three walks.

Mets starter Chris Flexen allowed three runs in 4.2 innings before being relieved by Alex Palsha. Palsha issued a bases loaded walk but the coaxed a fly out from Michael Suchy to end the fifth and keep the Mets up 5-3.

Palsha pitched a scoreless sixth and earned the win.

P.J. Conlon made his first relief appearance of the season and pitched the final three innings to register his first career save. Conlon gave up one run on three hits. He retired the last five Marauders in order to finish off the game.

Patrick Biondi went 2 for 5 with two runs scored and a RBI.

Tomas Nido drilled a RBI double.

Mets hitters drew eight walks. After going 0 for 24 with runners in scoring position in their previous three games, the Mets were 4 for 11 with runners in scoring position on Friday. Three of those hits came with two outs.

The Mets win coupled with Jupiter's 5-2 loss to Palm Beach moved the Mets within half a game of first place in the FSL South Division.

Next Up: The Mets (57-50, 22-18) and Marauders (56-53, 18-23) play the middle game of their series on Saturday at Tradition Field. Zack Wheeler will make the start for St. Lucie. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.

There is also a Jacob deGrom Bobblehead Giveaway sponsored by the Geico local office. The first 500 fans through the gates get a deGrom bobblehead. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
