PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Chris Paul's three-run shot in the top of the third inning helped send the Fort Myers Miracle to a 5-1 series opening win over the Charlotte Stone Crabs on Friday evening.

Tanner English's return to the lineup after a long stint on the disabled list jump started the Miracle offense in the first inning. On Charlotte starter Benton Moss's second pitch of the night, English whacked a triple into the left center field gap. Nick Gordon followed with a lofted single into center field to plate English. The RBI was Gordon's team-leading 47th of the season. After Chris Paul singled through the left side, Gordon and Paul advanced to third and second on a ground out by LaMonte Wade. Joe Maloney put the Miracle up 2-0 with a sacrifice fly into center field.

In the third, the Miracle extended the lead on the first home run of the season from Paul. With one out, English doubled off Moss (6-8) into left center. Gordon singled to right to put runners on the corners. Paul then cracked a 1-1 pitch into the table top seats in left center field for a three-run homer, 5-0.

Charlotte got on the board in the bottom of the third. With two out, Mikie Mahtook beat out an infield hit off Miracle starter Cody Stashak. Matt Duffy, on an MLB rehabilitation assignment, doubled into left center to bring in Mahtook, 5-1.

Moss lasted five innings for Charlotte and surrendered five earned runs on seven hits with one strikeout.

Stashak (1-0) went six innings for the Miracle and gave up just one run on four hits with a walk and four strikeouts in his Florida State League debut. Michael Theofanopoulos and Nick Anderson combined to keep the Stone Crabs off the board over the final three innings. Anderson earned a save in consecutive days with five-out appearance.

The Miracle (56-54, 22-19) and Stone Crabs (53-55, 20-19) continue the series at Charlotte Sports Park on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. Fernando Romero (3-1) will start for the Miracle against Charlotte's Grayson Garvin (0-1). Fans can listen to the broadcast on www.miraclebaseball.com with the "Voice of the Miracle" Brice Zimmerman beginning with the pregame show at 5:45 p.m.
