
Mets Dominate Stone Crabs 13-0

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets thoroughly dominated the Charlotte Stone Crabs 13-0 on Thursday at Tradition Field.
The Mets took two of three games in the series from the Stone Crabs and remained in a first place tie with the Jupiter Hammerheads in the FSL South Division.
David Thompson picked up where he left off on Wednesday night and delivered a two-out RBI double in the first inning to put the Mets up 1-0 and set the tone.
Jonathan Johnson grounded a two-run double past third base in the second inning to make it 4-0. Kevin Kaczmarski added a two-out run scoring single later in the frame and the Mets went up 5-0.
St. Lucie scored five runs in the fourth to break the game open. Lednier Ricardo started the frame with a solo home run. Kevin Taylor and Jhoan Urena singled home runs. Michael Katz drew a bases-loaded walk and Luis Guillorme grounded out to bring in a run.
Guillorme and Urena hit back-to-back doubles in the sixth to make it 12-0. A RBI ground out by Johnson brought in Urena for the 13th and final run.
Three Mets pitchers combined for the team's 15th shutout. Chris Flexen tossed the first five innings, scattering three hits and three walks. He was in a bases-loaded, no out jam in the fifth and retired three in a row without allowing a run to complete his outing.
Tyler Bashlor pitched two perfect innings. Mike Hepple handled the last two.
Johnson went 3 for 5 with three RBIs, three runs and a double from the leadoff spot. Taylor and Urena also had three hits apiece. Kaczmarski and Guillorme added two hits each.
All nine batters for the Mets recorded a hit. The team produced 17 total hits compared the four for the Stone Crabs.
Most of the damage done by St. Lucie came against Chris Pike. The Crabs starter was tagged for 11 hits and nine runs in 3.1 innings.
Next Up: The Mets (67-58, 32-26) welcome the Palm Beach Cardinals (51-76, 19-40) to Tradition Field on Friday. The teams have to resume last Sunday's suspended game at 4 p.m. Once that contest is over a seven-inning game will follow.
