
Mets Cruise Past Tortugas, 6-1

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets improved to 9-1 against Daytona this year after beating the Tortugas 6-1 at First Data Field on Saturday night.
For the second straight game Blake Tiberi delivered the go-ahead hit for St. Lucie. Tiberi grounded a two-run single up the middle in the third inning to put the Mets up 2-1. Later in the inning Tiberi stole third base and scored on a wild pitch for a 3-1 lead.
Carlos Cortes crushed a long solo home run to right field in the sixth inning. Hansel Moreno blasted a two-run homer off the roof of the Seacoast Sun Deck in right field to increase the Mets advantage to 6-1 in the seventh inning.
Tylor Megill got his second win of the week. Megill fanned eight Tortugas over five innings. He scattered four hits and was charged with one unearned run. In two starts this week Megill combined for 10.1 innings, six hits, one run, no earned runs, three walks and 18 strikeouts.
Andrew Mitchell pitched three scoreless innings after Megill and Briam Campusano closed out the game with a scoreless ninth.
Daytona starter Ryan Lillie pitched well but took the loss. He allowed four runs (two earned) in six innings.
The home run for Cortes was his third in the last five games. He now leads the team with 10 homers on the season. It was also extended the Mets streak of games with a home run to a season-high five.
The Moreno homer made it two straight games for the Mets with multiple home runs. It's the sixth time this year they've accomplished the feat.
The Mets (34-17, 66-51) and Tortugas (21-30, 56-60) wrap up their four-game series at First Data Field on Sunday. First pitch at First Data Field is scheduled for noon.
