PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Fort Myers Miracle handed the St. Lucie Mets a tough 1-0 loss on Thursday at Tradition Field.

Miracle closer Nick Anderson struck out Jhoan Urena after a lengthy at-bat to end the game with Kevin Taylor on third base as the tying run.

Three Miracle pitchers combined to strike out 13 batters. The Mets went 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

The Miracle scored the game's only run in the fifth inning. New reliever Tyler Bashlor walked Max Murphy on a 3-2 pitch with the bases loaded to force in Daniel Kihle. Kihle reached on a one-out single. Bashlor walked Tanner English and plunked Sean Miller to load the bases. Bashlor struck out Nick Gordon for the second out but lost Murphy.

The Mets were primed to score a run in the first inning off Miracle ace Fernando Romero. Patrick Biondi started the inning with a double and advanced to third base with no outs. Romero struck out Kevin Kaczmarski. David Thompson then lined out to Kihle in left field and Kihle rifled home to get Biondi at the plate.

In the second inning, Murphy, the Miracle right fielder, threw out Luis Guillorme going first to third to end the inning.

Romero blanked the Mets for 6.1 innings. He scattered three hits, walked two and struck out eight.

Mets starter Andrew Barbosa was added off the DL earlier in the day. He logged four scoreless innings.

Domingo Tapia contributed three scoreless innings of relief after Bashlor exited.

Biond went 2 for 3. He was ejected by the plate umpire for arguing called strike two with two runners on and one out in the eighth. Michael Katz took over the at-bat and struck out on the next pitch. Kaczmarski followed by striking out to end the inning.

Biondi's hits were the only two of the six the Mets hit that left the infield.

A win would have put the Mets in sole possession of first place in the FSL South Division. Instead the Mets remain a half game behind leaders Jupiter and Charlotte. Fort Myers is only one game out of first place.

Next Up: The Mets (63-57, 28-25) start a three-series against the last place Palm Beach Cardinals on Friday in Jupiter. First pitch from Roger Dean Stadium is 6:30 p.m.
