(Mark LoMoglio/Yankees) TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Yankees (28-25, 70-52) outhit the Clearwater Threshers (32-21, 71-50), 8-6, but left 10 runners on base and finished 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position in a 6-3 loss on Wednesday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Kevin Cornelius crushed his sixth homerun and Tampa scored the final three runs of the game before its comeback attempt fell short.

Prior to an hour and 13-minute rain delay, Clearwater claimed a 2-0 lead against RHP Yefrey Ramirez. In the third, Ramirez hit Jiandido Tromp and, one out later, allowed a two-run home run by Aaron Brown.

Tampa loaded the bases against RHP Shane Watson in the home half. Wes Wilson singled and, two outs later, Thairo Estrada and Gleyber Torres both walked before rain poured down.

Following the delay, Zack Zehner batted against RHP Yacksel Rios and popped out to second base, ending the Yankee threat.

Ramirez (L, 2-6) allowed two runs on three hits and a hit-batter in three innings, walking two and striking out three. The righty threw 31 of 54 pitches for strikes.

Rios (W, 3-3) tossed two and a third scoreless innings, walking one and striking out three.

RHP Eduardo Rivera joined the Tampa roster earlier in the day and entered in relief of Ramirez in the fourth. A hit-batter and a pair of walks loaded the bases and Josh Tobias scored on a wild pitch.

A pair of fielding errors by the Yankees allowed an unearned run to score for the Threshers in the fifth when Zach Coppola added an RBI single, giving Clearwater a 4-0 lead.

RHP Jordan Foley worked a scoreless sixth before allowing a two-run home run by Kyle Martin in the seventh.

Cornelius led off the bottom of the seventh with his home run, sending it to the opposite field into the Walgreen's Deck off of RHP Ulises Joaquin.

Tampa rallied for a pair of runs off LHP Tom Windle in the bottom of the ninth. Devyn Bolasky singled into left and, one out later, Jeff Hendrix walked. Rashad Crawford followed with an RBI into right-center. Hendrix then scored on a groundout to second by Estrada. Windle got Jorge Mateo to line out to second, ending the game.

RHP Matt Marsh retired all six batters he faced, striking out one in the eighth and ninth innings.

Bolasky (2-for-3, BB, R) is batting .333 (7-for-21) in his last seven games. Cornelius (1-for-4, HR, RBI, R) has 6 HR and 24 RBI in 32 games with Tampa.

The Yankees will battle the Threshers in the season-series finale on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. RHP Domingo German (0-1, 1.98 ERA) is scheduled to pitch for Tampa against RHP Luke Leftwich (2-3, 5.54 ERA) for Clearwater.
