New York Red Bulls News Release
Up Next, D.C. United: The Metros will play host to defending MLS Cup Champions D.C. United on Sunday June 12 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. This is their first meeting of the 2005 Season. (TV: MSG, Spanish Radio: WADO 1280 AM).
Tickets are available for all MetroStars home games at the Continental Airlines Arena box office and at all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets will also be available through Ticketmaster by phone for callers in New Jersey (201-507-8900), New York (212-307-7171), and for Spanish-speaking customers throughout New York and New Jersey (212-307-4757).
IBRAHIM GETS SECOND GOAL OF CAREER: After playing just seven games in his brief MLS career, MetroStars forward Abbe Ibrahim already scored his second goal, which came June 4 at L.A. The 18 year-old from Lome Gulf, Togo has only started four games this season, but already has three assists in addition to his two goals. He is making a huge impact up top for the Metros.
ANOTHER HELPER FOR EL LOBO: Amado Guevara set up the Metros first goal against the Galaxy off a corner kick for his fifth assist of the year. He is now tied for second in the league in assists, trailing only San Jose's Brad Davis (6).
GALVAN RAY GETS GAME TYING GOAL: Sergio Galvan Ray netted the game-tying goal against L.A on June 4. His third goal of the season tied the Metros with the Galaxy 2-2. This was Galvan Rey's first goal since April 16.
FINALLY, SOME REST: The MetroStars just returned home from their busiest stretch of the season with five games in 14 days. The Metros had a very successful two weeks going 2-1-2 during the stretch. Their only loss came on the road at Kansas City.
Included in the stretch were road trips to Kansas City, Columbus and Los Angeles and home games against the Revolution and the Chicago Fire. The Metros have a week off until their next game, June 4, home against D.C. United.
BON VOYAGE: 18-year olds Eddie Gaven and Tim Ward departed for Amsterdam, Holland on Wednesday, June 1 to join the U.S. U-20 National Team and participate in the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championships. The U.S. Under-20s are in Group D with Argentina, Germany and Egypt. The U.S. will open the World Youth Championship against Argentina on June 11 at 5:30 p.m. local time/ 11:30 a.m. ET, before facing Germany on June 14 (8:30 p.m. local time/ 2:30 p.m. ET) and concluding group play on June 18 (1:30 p.m. local time/ 7:30 a.m. ET) against Egypt. Ward and Gaven will rejoin the MetroStars following the conclusion of the tournament on July 2.
GAVEN ON FIRE: MetroStars midfielder Eddie Gaven had an amazing month of May. During the month, he tallied four goals and an assist while leading the MetroStars to a record of 2-1-2 for May.
385 DAYS: MetroStars forward Youri Djorkaeff has been scoring goals professionally for over 18 years, however his goal on 5/28 marked the first time he has found the back of the net since May 8, 2004 when he tallied a double for Bolton in their 2-1 win over Everton.
Metros Defense: The Metros defense ranks third in the league for the fewest goals allowed in MLS â with eleven. New England leads the league having only allowed eight and FC Dallas ranks second with 10.
ScHEDULE CHANGE: The MetroStars announced that their match against the Chicago Fire at Soldier Field originally scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 28 at 7:00 p.m. ET, will now take place on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8:30 p.m. ET at Soldier Field in Chicago. The date change is the result of a scheduling conflict with the Chicago Bears.
Guevara Given Captain's Armband: For the past two years Eddie Pope had served as the Metros captain, and until the season opener against Real Salt Lake, the new MetroStars captain had not been named. Guevara has served as captain for all of the Metros' games this season.
Guevara, who serves as the Honduran National team captain, had a stellar 2004 season with the MetroStars. For his play he was honored with many awards including the 2004 MLS MVP, the 2004 MetroStars MVP, the 2004 MLS All-Star Game MVP, a member of the 2004 MLS Best XI, the 2004 MLS Scoring Champion (tied with New England's Pat Noonan) and Fox Sports Espanol's MLS Player of the Year. Guevara scored a team high (tied with John Wolyniec) 10 goals and registered a team high 10 assists.

Metro soccer report: MSG will air the Metro Soccer Report this week on Thursday at 10:30 p.m. ET. The show will also re-run four more times (on Friday at 6:30 p.m., Friday at 11:00 p.m. ET and on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. ET and 9:00 p.m. ET).
METROS ADD TWO: The MetroStars announced on Friday, May 13 that they signed two players- Senegalese defender Mamadou Ibrahima Diallo and Brazilian defender Danilo da Silva. Per MLS policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Diallo, a 21-year old from Medina, Senegal, has two caps on the Senegal National Team and 20 career caps on the B-National team. In 2004, he started at left back for one of the top clubs in Senegal, Jeanne D'Arc.
da Silva is an 18-year old Brazilian who played the last three seasons with Ginasio Pinhalense de Esportes Atleticos, the same former club as current MetroStar Gilberto.
Both Diallo and da Silva will be slotted as Youth Internationals, leaving the MetroStars with one Youth International slot remaining. The club also has one Senior International slot remaining.
Metrostars launch all-access: The MetroStars launched MetroStars All-Access on Thursday, March 31 on MetroStars.com. The show, which will air every Wednesday, will bring fans inside the "Red and Black" and show them a side of the club that they cannot get anywhere else.
