Columbus Crew SC News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Tuesday, June 7) – Columbus Crew General Manager Mark McCullers and Crew Head Coach Greg Andrulis announced today that The Crew has acquired MetroStars forward John Wolyniec in exchange for Ante Razov and a portion of an allocation.

"It is tough to leave my hometown and a team I have played with for the past few seasons," said Wolyniec, who will join the team on Thursday. "But at the same time, change is a part of this game and I am excited to be coming to an organization like Columbus. I look forward to this opportunity and hopefully I can come in and help the team."

Wolyniec has two goals and three assists in eight games this season for the MetroStars. He was tied for the MetroStars team lead last season with 10 goals, and has 21 goals and nine assists throughout his seven-year, 89-game MLS career. He has also appeared in five MLS playoff games.

"We are excited to add another quality person and player to our roster," said Andrulis. "John provides a proven goal-scorer mentality to our team. He also is the type of player who will work hard to do the little things and care more about the name on the front of the jersey than the name on the back."

The Staten Island, N.Y., native has spent time with the MetroStars (1999, 2003-2005), Chicago Fire (2000-2002), and New England Revolution (2001).

Wolyniec also has two appearances for the U.S. National Team, both coming in 2004.
