Red Bull New York News Release
Los Angeles Up Next: The MetroStars return to action this upcoming Saturday night, August 31, at 10:00 p.m. ET, when they face the Los Angeles Galaxy at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2 (Taped-Delay to 1:00 a.m. ET) with Spanish radio live on WADO 1280 AM.
The meeting will be the second this season between both clubs. The MetroStars routed the Galaxy on June 15 by a score of 5-0, behind a brilliant four-goal effort by Mamadou Diallo. The win was the largest in team history.
The MetroStars (10-11-2) currently hold the seventh playoff spot in the Major League Soccer playoff standings with five games remaining in the regular season. They trail the first place Chicago Fire and Columbus Crew (both 10-10-4) by just two points in the Eastern Conference with one less game played.
After traveling to Dallas to face the Burn on Thursday, September 5 (8:00 p.m. ET, ESPN2, WADO 1280 AM), the MetroStars return to Giants Stadium on Thursday, September 12, at 7:30 p.m. ET, when they host DC United on Fan Appreciation Night. The first 5,000 fans will receive a special MetroStars door poster, courtesy of Drew & Rogers Printing.
Tickets for the game are available at all regional Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster.com, MetroStars.com, the Continental Airlines Arena box office, or for group orders by calling the MetroStars toll free at 1-888-4-METROTIX.
Big Mama Owns The Galaxy: Mamadou Diallo holds some of his best career MLS numbers against the Galaxy. In the regular season, he has scored nine goals in five regular season games. In the playoffs (2000 w/TB), he has scored two goals in two games. He owns career totals of 11 goals in seven games played. Diallo's success comes from a pair of four-goal games on May 9, 2001 (W/Tampa Bay, 4-4 tie) and June 15, 2002 (W/MET, 5-0 W) against L.A.
MetroStars Successful On The Road: The MetroStars hold the best record in MLS on the road with a 6-4 mark. They play their next two consecutive league games on the road in Los Angeles (8/31) and Dallas (9/5).
Williams, Petke Set Highs: Midfielder Andy Williams recorded his career-high 13th assist of the 2002 MLS season in the 1-0 win over DC United Sunday on Clint Mathis' late goal. His previous career-high was 12 in his rookie season of 1998 with the Columbus Crew. Defender Mike Petke became the first player in team history to surpass 11,000 minutes played in the regular season, surpassing the milestone in the 13th minute of the 1-0 win Sunday. He now holds a total of 11,078 regular-season minutes.
