Red Bull New York News Release
LOOKING TO BREAK SKID AGAINST THE CHAMPIONS: The MetroStars play the second of three consecutive home games this Saturday at Giants Stadium when they host the 2001 MLS Cup champions San Jose Earthquakes at 7:30 p.m. ET (TV: Fox Sports New York; Spanish Radio WADO 1280 AM). Broadcast coverage on Fox Sports New York and WADO begins with each outlet's respective pre-game shows at 7 p.m. ET.
The first-place MetroStars lead the Eastern Conference with nine points (3-2), while the Earthquakes (3-2, 9 pts) lead the West with nine points and boast a line up of Landon Donovan (2G, 1A), Jeff Agoos, Ariel Graziani (1G, 2A), and Richard Mulrooney (1A).
The MetroStars trail the all-time series between both clubs, 4-9-2 (GF: 15, GA: 22, -7), but have played well at home with a 3-3-2 (GF: 12, GA: 8, +4) mark.
They have struggled recently against the Earthquakes though, going 0-5-2 (GF: 3, GA: 12, -9) in their last seven games. The last Metro win was on April 25, 1998, a 4-3 nationally televised win on ABC that ended on an Alexi Lalas goal in the final seconds of regulation. The last goal against the Earthquakes was a 35' strike by Henry Zambrano in a 2-1 loss on September 22, 1999 at Giants Stadium.
